Indian handicraft exports continue international growth
Demand for handcrafted home, lifestyle and decor products from India is rising across the EU, UK and GCC markets, supported by buyers' growing focus on provenance and artisan supply chains.
Indian handicraft exports are quietly continuing one of the more durable growth runs in the country's lifestyle trade. Shipments of handcrafted home decor, furniture, textiles and giftware to the European Union, United Kingdom and Gulf markets have grown for four straight quarters, supported by retail buyers placing larger, more repeat-oriented orders.
The shift is being driven less by any single product category and more by a broader change in buyer behaviour. Retailers are pulling back from purely price-led sourcing and instead asking suppliers for documented provenance, fair-wage compliance and consistent quality from one shipment to the next. Indian exporters that have invested in artisan registries, in-house quality cells and direct-to-cluster sourcing are capturing a disproportionate share of that demand.
Major handicraft clusters across Jaipur, Moradabad, Saharanpur and parts of West Bengal are reporting healthy order books for the autumn-winter retail season. Several exporters say they are already booked into early 2027 for hero categories such as metal home accessories and woven textiles.
Logistics and certification remain the practical constraints. Ocean freight reliability has improved compared with the disruptions of recent years, but smaller exporters continue to struggle with the cost of country-specific labelling, REACH and similar compliance work. Industry bodies are pressing for shared compliance infrastructure at the cluster level to lower that barrier.
Looking ahead, analysts expect Indian handicraft exports to grow comfortably in double digits this fiscal year, with the EU and GCC corridors continuing to lead. The real prize, exporters say, lies in moving further into branded private label — where margins are healthier and customer relationships last longer.
